Tournament Ball
Format
- Double elimination.
- For each match the scorekeepers at the scoretable will give you a basket containing pickleballs, a pen, and a scoresheet.
- The scoresheet will specify the type of match that you are to play that round:
- One game to 15, win by 1.
- Two games to 11, win by 1. Most total points wins. To break a split-game tie, play one more point to complete the 2nd game.
- Best two out of three games, win by 2. This format will only be used for the semifinal and final matches.
Referees
- All matches will be self-officiated by the players on the court.
- After completing each match, players must return their basket and completed scoresheet to the scoretable.
- All calls, including keeping track of the score, are the sole responsibility of the players.
- Please be as fair and considerate as possible.
- If a team is unable to make an immediate call, the call must favor the opposing team.
- Requesting assistance from anyone other than your partner or your opponents to make a call is not allowed.
- If you ask your opponents to make the call, you are giving up your right to make the call and the call made by your opponents must be honored.
Tournament Referee
- Disputes should be resolved by the teams on the court if at all possible.
- Otherwise, either team may call for the tournament referee (Paul Puttonen) to make a final decision.
Timeouts
- One 1-minute timeout per game is allowed.
- Players are responsible for keeping track of their timeouts and keeping the timeouts brief.
- From time to time a train will pass by the courts and it is LOUD. As a courtesy to all players, please suspend play briefly until the train passes.
